Building or Remodeling

A building permit is typically required for building and remodeling projects.  A permit will be required for new additions, remodeling, finishing a basement, re-roofing, re-siding, window replacement, decks, porches, plumbing, heating, electrical work, garages and more.  Please call City Hall at 218-546-5021 or the Building Official, Scott Sadusky, before you begin any project.  Please be sure to have your permit secured so that you do not incur a fine for work without a permit.

Building Official, Scott Sadusky, can be reached at 612-986-7644 or by email: ssadusky@hotmail.com

Building Inspector, Luke Hanson, is the residential inspector and can be reached at 218-940-1682.

Please submit your completed permit applications by email to adminassist@cityofcrosby.com

Permit application will be reviewed by appropriate officials.

Once the permit application is approved, you will be notified of the application fee to be paid before the building permit can be issued.

Please contact city hall at 218-546-5021 with any questions.

 Building Permits

City Council enacts ordinances to regulate construction, maintenance, and remodeling so that the buildings where we live, work, and play will be safe.  The City uses permits to make sure that the work is done in compliance with those ordinances.

The City of Crosby enforces national and international building codes adopted by the State of Minnesota. These codes are available online.

Getting a building permit helps you to ensure that your project meets safety and building code standards and there is a penalty for starting construction prior to the issuance of a building permit.  Many building permits can be issued over the counter at City Hall and require very little wait time.

In addition to permits, please contact the Planning & Zoning Administrator, Mitch Hinnenkamp for information on setback requirements, lot coverage, fences, shoreland regulations and other land use questions. Mitch can be reached at 218-541-5512 or email: planning@cityofcrosby.com

We encourage you to call with any questions regarding all construction projects being considered prior to beginning work.

A building permit must be filled out completely and submitted to City Hall in person or sent to adminassist@cityofcrosby.com

The forms can be accessed on this page or picked up at City Hall.

The completed and signed building permit is sent to the Building Inspector for review and he will contact you directly with questions, or if additional information is required.
