Bike Patrol

The Crosby Police Department recognizes the need for specialized police patrol to access many of the areas of our community that are not accessible by patrol car, including our three City Parks, four historical sites,12 miles of mountain bike trails and three miles of paved bike trail. Because of the challenges involved in patrolling these areas officers utilize bicycles as a tool to:
    • Deter criminal activity.
    • Provide alternate enforcement methods.
    • Promote public relations.
    • For the education of area youth regarding bicycle safety.

Bike Patrols are a significant part of the Crosby Police Department - Reserve Division's duties and are also utilized by licensed officers. Bike Patrols have proven to be an effective policing tool for the City of Crosby and its citizens.   Officers utilize Bikes, specially equipped for police duty use that were recycled from abandoned bicycles and brought into service.  Another benefit of patrolling by bike, is that of being a green friendly and cost effective mode of transportation.

Bike Patrol is also part of the Crosby Police Department's Community Policing Initiative. Officers find policing on bikes enable them to interact more closely with citizens allowing them: to be better informed as to what problems exist in a particular neighborhood to address these problems and make neighborhoods in our community safer places to live.

Bike Patrol Duties:  Officers participating in Bike Patrol perform the same duties as officers assigned to traditional patrol. Officers on bikes answer assigned calls and address specific problems that may arise within the community.
